The Harlem Family Institute (HFI) provides two Community services:

• For children and their families in need, a deeply committed program offering free, long-term psychotherapy provided in neighborhood schools and community centers.
• For therapists, a dynamic training institute and a foundation for an advanced career in mental health services.

Since 1991, HFI has given youngsters and their families a safe space to voice their feelings, learn to use their strengths to manage the challenges they face each day, and discover new ways to relate to the world.

As a training institute, HFI offers three programs for trainees at different educational and/or career levels.

• The Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Three-Year Program.
• The Four-Year Program in Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis.

  Both programs are designed for trainees who hold at least a master’s degree in a field requiring clinical experience. HFI graduates of the three-year psychoanalytic psychotherapy program may continue their training in child and adolescent studies for a fourth year.

• The Two-Year Post Graduate Program in Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis.

  Designed for psychotherapists who have completed training at an accredited psychoanalytic psychotherapy institute and are interested in learning about working with children.
